Kitchen Cabinet Assembly – How To Install Kitchen Cabinets

Now that you have your new kitchen cabinets, it’s time to take the next big step…Installation of kitchen furniture. While actually installing kitchen cabinets is so difficult, the crucial first step is to measure and mark the position of the cabinets. Placing layout marks on walls and floors not only helps with fitted kitchen cabinets and stud placement, but also helps you identify any adjustments and thicknesses needed. Before you begin you will need a few items for your project:

Pencil

Level or Laser Level

Drill

Tape Measure

Stud Locator

Pliers

1″ x 3″ wood (6′ – 8′ long) or inverted U-frame (see notes below)

washers

screws (long enough for 1 1/2 bolts)

utility knife or chisel

marker compass

an extra pair of hands (you may be bribing one of your friends need)

As mentioned above, you have the option to use a 1’000 coin. x3#039; Lumber for mounting or building a frame to support cabinets (I’m including a photo of a sample frame below). This can be done with 2′ x 4#s and must be large enough to support the bottom of the cabinets. If you are installing more than one kitchen I would suggest a frame but a piece of wood will do if it is a one off event. Either way, you’ll need another pair of hands to help you install it.

In this case we have RTA Kitchen & bathroom furniture store. Now that the kitchen cabinets are in place, we can proceed to laying out the layout lines. Some people start with base cabinets, but we start with wall cabinets. There is no right or wrong way to start, I just prefer to start with wall units.

  1. Using a level and pencil, draw a parallel line across the wall approximately 3 inches from the floor. Measure from this line to the floor and find the highest point on the floor (if there is one) and mark the line at that point. Measure 34 1/2 inches from this highest point and draw a horizontal line across the wall to mark the top of the base cabinets.
  2. Now that you’ve marked the top of the bottom cabinets, measure another 19 1/2 inches and a horizontal line across the wall to mark the bottom of the closets. Easily mark any piece of furniture’ Size and placement on the wall to ensure the original layout is correct.
